Doosan Enerbility will be participating in Saudi Arabia’s largest-to-date combined cycle power plant project.

On March 11th, Doosan Enerbility announced that it had signed a contract with SEPCO-3, agreeing to supply the components for the Taiba-1 and Qassim-1 Independent Power Plants in Saudi Arabia.  Under the terms of the agreement, Doosan will be supplying its 650MW steam turbine and generator, which entails one of each being delivered to both the Taiba-1 and Qassim-1 power plants. The contract is valued to be approximately KRW 150 billion won.

The Taiba-1 and Qassim-1 power plants are located around 200km to the north of Jeddah and approximately 200km to the northwest of Riyadh respectively.  Both power plants, each designed to have a capacity of 1,800MW, are slated to be built by 2027.  The developer for the project is a consortium consisting of ACWA Power and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).  SEPCO-3, the client with whom Doosan had signed the supplier agreement, will be taking on the role of engineering, procurement and construction(EPC) for the project.

“We are seeing a growth in order intake for the gas-fired power sector in not only Korea, but also in the overseas markets, such as Saudi Arabia and other Middle East and Asian countries,”  said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group.  “As it is forecast that there will be over 15GW worth of new orders in Saudi Arabia for combined cycle power plants in the next five years, we plan to step up our market targeting efforts.”

Doosan Enerbility has been supplying the main components of power plants, such as gas turbines, steam turbines and generators, to a number of gas-fired power plant projects at home and abroad.  The company has signed equipment supplier agreements for the Andong and Gongju Combined Cycle Power Plants in Korea, as well as the Fujairah F3 Power Plant in the United Arab Emirates and the Syrdaria II Power Plant in Uzbekistan.
